Cookbook Club Kits

Available 1st of the month, while supplies last

Every month join us as we explore a different country from around the globe. This season, we will be traveling between Europe and Africa. Learn a little about the culture and cuisine and try out a recipe or two… some months there might even be a surprise. Kits are available up at the circulation desk. Everything inside is yours to keep. Just return the container within 7 days.

May – France

5 Mother Sauces – Flour

France is well-known in culinary circles for its exquisite cuisine, the basis for many of its dishes being the so-called 5 mother sauces that transform into a host of different sauces to try. And best of all, understanding them is fairly simple to accomplish.

June – Greece

Spanakopita – Dill

With so much history and culture, Greece might be a little hard to nail down to a single recipe. But one thing that all regions of this country have a variation of is Spanakopita, a spinach and cheese pastry that has Popeye guarding his stash.

July – Algeria

Chakchouka – Paprika

A popular breakfast in the Middle East, this dish originated somewhere between Algeria and Tunisia. Don’t end up with egg on your face. Give this one-pan marvel a shot!

August – Ghana

Jollof Rice – Crushed Red Pepper

A Staple of West-African cuisine, this dish is made from rice, tomatoes, onions, peppers, and various different spices and seasonings and is absolutely crammed with flavor.

September – Madagascar

Hen’omby Ritra

In Madagascar, every home has its own recipe for Hen’omby Ritra, or braised beef. It is rich and juicy, with a slightly exotic flavor due to its use of ginger powder
