Job Opportunities at the Brown Deer Public Library

A Library Page/Shelver is an integral part of this small suburban public library team on the northern border of Milwaukee County. The candidate will promote a positive image of the library and reinforce the value of its services through courteous customer interaction, consistent performance and excellent dependability. 


The candidate will work an average of 10 hours per week. Employees are not required to live in the Village of Brown Deer.

Essential duties include:

Library Appearance Maintenance – maintain orderly library shelves and attractive library environment by straightening furniture and displays, ensure orderly shelving and appearance of library materials.

Materials Handling and Circulation – accurately and efficiently handle library materials of all types, demonstrate a high degree of attention to detail in all activities including materials sorting/shelving/circulation, ensure accurate policy explanations and financial transactions when required, show comfort with routine interruption and performance of multiple simultaneous tasks. Assist in staffing the Circulation Desk when occasionally required.

Customer Service – provide courteous and compassionate service to all customers, show curiosity in their questions, advise them of library policies and procedures, demonstrate patience with complex and routine questions, ensure accuracy in transactions despite routine interruption, have outstanding communication.

Clerical Tasks – follow the instruction of colleagues in the execution of special projects, make productive use of work time by independently prioritizing clerical tasks.
