Kits available 1st of the month, while supplies last
Every month join us as we explore a different country from around the globe. This season, we will be traveling between North America and Oceania. Learn a little about the culture and cuisine and try out a recipe or two… some months there might even be a surprise. Kits are available up at the circulation desk. Everything inside is yours to keep. Just return the container within 7 days.
May – Inuit – Akutaq – Sugar
While due to the extreme latitudes involved, traditionally a cuisine high in protein and not much else, here is a powerhouse recipe that brightens up the pallet and emphasizes the ingenuity and resourcefulness of an indigenous people.
June – Canada – Poutine – Cornstarch
Originating in the 1950s, this messy but delicious dish first was used to mock Quebec society then to celebrate it, eventually becoming the national dish of Canada.
July – Australia – Meat Pies – Bay Leaves
Maybe we should have done Vegemite (it is in this recipe) as one of the most iconic Australian food, but whether you’re going to a sporting event, a lazy day home or a picnic at the beach, every Aussie knows meat pies are the way to go.
August – Samoa – Chicken Moa Fa'Asaina – Tapioca Starch
Often cooked on the stovetop or in a traditional earth oven (umu) for get togethers and more formal family events, this is a family staple in Samoa.
